Buff coats where and are expensive and many of the surviving coats I have studied show evidence of repair and alteration.

This coat is one of the first I ever made and it's original owner asked me to "do some thing with it ..." The old sleeves were striped out and some of the seams re-stitched where necessary. A few bent and broken hooks and eyes where replaced and it was re-painted with yellow ochre paint just like the originals where. New sleeves where made from wool dyed with madder and lined with silk satin. The sleeves are decorated with hand made gold plaited braid and silk and gold thread wrapped buttons on the cuffs. Finally the front laces where replaced with new ones to match the braid.
