15th/16th century large belt bag with piped seams and tooling

This belt bag is made from brazilwood red goat and calf skin with tan piping and is stitched by hand. This design is based on a figure in 'Flemish Proverbs' by Pieter Bruegel painted in 1559 and is a common design in the 15th and 16th centuries. It has a draw string bag that is held closed with a button flap and hangs from a belt loop. The drawstrings have hand made beads on the ends. The belt loop and button flap are decorated with incised lines and stamped tooling.

It measures 10 x 13 inches (25 x 33cm) when open.
Price: £60.00
